Social and Recreational Matches

Learn to play matches for the first time

Play matches for fun and not ratings/rankings

Opportunity to compete in a relaxed environment

Low Cost entry fees

At the Excel Tennis Academy we understand that not all pupils wish to compete. Some people would like to compete but do not feel that they are strong enough, while others wish to play regular matches.

Our aim is to encourage our pupils to play tennis. Whether this is in an organised competitive format or arranging to play with a friend. We believe that the fastest way to improve is to play.

Junior Social Tennis Matches

At the Excel Tennis Academy our goal is to increase participation and create more opportunities for people to play tennis and enjoy being on court. To help with this we have set up regular Junior Social Tennis Matches.

These events are designed for all players of all standards to come and play matches without the stress of a tournament or club match. These events are perfect for beginners as well as the more experienced player as they are just about having fun and playing recreational tennis.

Mini Tennis events (4 - 10 yrs old) will count towards rating as these ratings are all based on participation, However, the main aim is not about ratings it is about playing tennis for fun.

These events will not count towards ratings or rankings as we want to promote tennis as a fun sport to play and that you don't have to enter tournaments in order to play a tennis match. We will aim to get all players playing against similar age and standard players but this will depend on the number of entrants, if you wish to check before hand then please contact us first.

We will also aim to play singles and doubles.

One of our main goals in to increase the numbers of girls in tennis as well as to support the girls who already play.

We have set up some 'Girls Only' sessions. These sessions will continue to be social based with all the girls playing matches against other girls similar age and abilities (where possible).

Research has shown that most girls would continue to play and compete into their teens if they were in their own group.

Girls are welcome in ANY of our sessions but this group is specifically for them

All these matches/events are played at the Eynsham Community Tennis Facility at Bartholomew Secondary School in Eynsham

Mini Tennis 4 - 10 years old

Junior Social Tennis Matches 11 - 16 years old

Parent + Child Events

At The Excel Tennis Academy we want to promote Tennis as a family sport. Therefore we are going to run regular parent child events. These events are social based and are a great chance for parents to play tennis with their children.

These will be doubles events with a parent and child pairing up against another parent and child.

To ensure the best experience for all pupils and parents there are 3 age groups you can enter based on your child.

4 - 8 years old  played on a mini Red court

8 - 10 years old played on a mini Orange court

11 - 16 years old Played on a full court with Green balls

Understanding Ratings

To enter our recreational events or our parent child events you do not need to have a rating but we would like you to have signed up to British Tennis Membership.

This process only takes a few minutes. British Tennis Membership is FREE to all members of affiliated tennis clubs and people involved in a coaching programme and to all children under the age of 9. Once registered players receive a player rating, regular competition information, newsletters and the chance to win tickets to Wimbledon.

In order to enter an official competition you must be a member of British Tennis.

A player rating enables the child, the parent and our coaches to measure their progress as they get into playing matches. A rating gives your child a goal and gives our coaching meaningful direction.

Mini Tennis Ratings

Mini Tennis Ratings are based on participation, not just winning. The emphasis is to get children used to the idea that playing matches is the norm, not something new or different. We are able to record the results of all the matches that children play as long as they are registered with British Tennis. More information on Mini Tennis Ratings can be found on the LTA website.
