Frequently Asked Questions
When do your Sessions run?
Each coaching term runs for the entire length of the school term, excluding school holidays and dates near to Christmas.
Can I join the coaching sessions once the term has started?
We always welcome new players to our programme so it is possible to join a group once the term has already started. simply contact us to check availability and prices and then come and join in and try the session out. Remember your first session is always FREE
Do I need to be a member of a Tennis Club?
Pupils do not need to become members of the clubs where they attend coaching, however there are many benefits to becoming a member. These include:
Discounted coaching sessions
Playing for the club teams
Inclusion in to the Wimbledon Ballot for tickets to the championships (11+ only)
Free membership to British Tennis
Use of the club’s tennis courts and online booking systems
What can I expect to learn?
Our coaching sessions are specially designed to give every player the chance to improve and learn the whole game of tennis, not just hit balls. To help develop your skills every 4th week is based around competition and learning how to play and win points. During your sessions you will learn all the core skills required to play tennis including technique and tactics.
What if I miss a lesson?
We know that life sometimes gets in the way of tennis. For this reason if you are signed up to our term time coaching sessions and for whatever reason you are unable to attend a lesson, speak to your coach and they will advise you which is the best alternative session to come along to in order to make up for your missed session.
What if it rains?
At the Excel Tennis Academy we play through most conditions unless it is unsafe (ice/heavy frosts) or the weather will negatively affect the session too much (strong winds). We rarely have to cancel lessons due to bad weather but if we do then we always offer you the chance to make up the missed session in any of our other group sessions. Just speak to your coach to find out which session is best for you to attend.
Our aims have always been the improvement of the pupils as well as their enjoyment of the sessions. The most important aspect of improvement is to play regularly.
