About the Excel Tennis Academy

The Excel Tennis Academy was founded by Edward Large in 2003 when he was 19.

Edward created the Excel Tennis Academy to provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to get involved and learn to play tennis. Edward started assisting coaching tennis when he was 14 years old at his local club. He knew straight away he wanted this to be his career. At 16 years old he started his coaching qualifications and by the age of 21 was a level 4 tennis coach, one of the youngest in the country. Early on in his time as a coach he realised that there was a need to make tennis more accessible for everyone and he made this his focus when he created the Excel Tennis Academy.

The Excel Tennis Academy aims to make tennis accessible for everyone. Whatever your age, ability or background, we believe you should be given the opportunity to fulfil your potential and enjoy learning and playing. Whether you want to play for fun, for fitness, to socialise or want to become the next Wimbledon Champion our objectives remain the same for everyone.

Our coaching programmes are tailored for all standards and ages and allow players to develop at their own pace in a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere. Whether you are playing for fun, looking to develop new skills, meet new people or become the next Andy Murray we have a session to help.

The Excel Tennis Academy is so much more than just hitting balls. We create an environment where pupils not only learn how to play the game and improve, but benefit from increased confidence, social skills, fitness and learn more about team work.

Co-ordinated by our experienced team of LTA qualified and licensed coaches; we offer very high quality tuition, giving everyone the best chance to learn and develop. We are very passionate about tennis and work with Tennis Clubs, local facilities and schools creating coaching programmes for juniors and adults and more opportunities for people to play regardless of age, ability, or background.

Edward has always loved working with juniors and mentoring them to become future tennis coaches. Since 2004 he has mentored over 30 people many of which are now full time tennis coaches, have careers in sport or have gained access to careers and universities due to their experience.

In 2023 Ryan Fitz-John who has been working with Edward for the last 16 years as his right hand man became a partner in the Excel Tennis Academy and is helping to continue our main goal to get as many people playing and sharing our enthusiasm for the game of tennis as possible.

We look forward to seeing you very soon at an EXCEL TENNIS ACADEMY session near you!
